1.How to get from Penang Airport(PEN) to Penang

If you are planning to travel to Penang, you might wonder what are the mode of transportation that are available for you to get off from the airport to town. Organizing your transfer from airport to hotel in Penang upon arrival can be a confusing affair. The cost of travel can vary greatly depending on which method of transportation you select.

Fret not, with just a little bit of reading and knowledge here, you can avoid all the unnecessary frustration that will ruin the start of your vacation and overspending on this holiday trip.

Private airport transport 

The quickest and most comfortable way to get from the airport is by private transport, which will cost you around RM150. You can pre-book your private transport so that you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing your private chauffeur will be waiting to pick you up at the airport. The distance between Penang Airport (PEN) and George Town is 15 km. From the airport, it normally takes around 15 minutes to reach Georgetown.

Airport transfer with taxi

The most convenient and most used way to get from the airport to Georgetown is by Grab (Uber in Asia) or taxi. Taxi fares usually around RM30 on the meter. Grab is more widely used for being a cheaper and efficient alternative to conventional taxis. Hence, choosing grab over taxis is a real no brainer. However, if you’re more comfortable using a taxi please make sure the taxi drivers turn on the meter as they tend to cheat foreigners.

Rent a car at the airport

You can rediscover the fun of driving in a city that you are going to explore. On average a hire car in Penang costs around RM75 per day. 

Catch on a bus

The cheapest way to get from the airport to George Town is to catch a bus, operated by Rapid Penang, which costs around RM1-RM4 and takes approximately 48 min, that is twice as much time than a taxi or car. You can get the bus tickets at the Rapid Bus counter on the ground floor level of the arrival hall. 

From the airport, you have take Bus 102 or Bus 401E

Bus 102: It will stop at Komtar then Gurney Paragon. It operates from 6.00am -11.15pm , once every 60-80 minutes.

Bus 401E: It will stop at Weld Quay Bus Terminal. It operates from 5.30am -11.10pm, once every 25-35 minutes
